Anchor House Week 26 - Needs Met

One of things I get to do in my role with Anchor House is visit churches and invite them into partnership with the mission. What we need most is people willing to donate their time and serve alongside us at SeaPort Manatee. We are seeking followers of Jesus who want to consistently serve in a ministry with a local and global impact. We are inviting people who are motivated by love and want to love others.

Many times when I approach a church they are expecting a financial “ask”. While we are an independent 501c3 mission and rely on the generosity of others to exist, money is not our primary “ask”. I can imagine churches frequently get approached by missions and ministries hoping for funding. I believe as missionaries and leaders of ministries, our responsibility is to share with God’s people what He is doing through us. Once we do that I think we need to allow the Holy Spirit to work.  The Holy Spirit will guide them as to how or if a church or person should engage with the mission.

I believe that God will provide for Anchor House. For almost 30 years God has faithfully provided so that His ministry may be done through Anchor House and those who serve Him. Paul, in the letter to the Phillipians, writes, “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” There is no doubt, God will meet our needs in every area of our need.

If you give financially to the mission, thank you for joining us as partners. Your generosity is an inspiration. If you give of your time,  please accept my sincere gratitude. You are the heartbeat of the mission. Whether you clean a bathroom, drive the van, heat up foods in the kitchen, help build ditty bags, staff the center in the evening, or any number of amazing other actions, know that we celebrate you with thanksgiving. No matter how you have been called to partner with Anchor House, you are a blessing to the international seafarers and SeaPort Manatee community. We are grateful for you.

If you read this and feel called to step in and serve with us, email me at AnchorHouseMission2@gmail.com.

Be blessed and be a blessing,

Matt

Anchor House Week 2: Have a nice forever

The second week at Anchor House concluded with my return to State College of Florida for a very special event. I had the great honor of overseeing the celebration of life services for Robert C Wynn.  Coach Wynn was the first baseball coach and athletic director at then Manatee Junior College. Under his leadership, they won championships, expanded the athletic department by adding other new sports, and were pioneers and champions for women in sport. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, coach, teacher, mentor, and friend. The fact is, he built a legacy. However, that legacy wasn’t just what occurred on the baseball field, athletic department, or within his family. It was about people's forever.  Coach Wynn was one of the most passionate soldiers for Jesus I have ever known.  He was more concerned about people's salvation in Jesus than anything else. It was the focal point of all of his relationships and decisions. His unashamed passion for s...

A New Command

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. John 13:34 NIV I don't know how many times I have read this verse. Today it hit me differently. Part of it jumped off the page. If there's a new commandment, what makes this different than the old ones?  They must have love in them, right? Nine of the ten commandments have "No" or "Not" contained in them. They tell us what we cannot do rather than providing us with positive direction.  This new commandment couldn't be a more drastic change from the ten commandments. Jesus doesn't say don't do this instead He says DO THIS! Jesus could have easily followed the format of the commandments and said don't hate others or don't ignore others. Instead He gave direction and said LOVE others.   This raises the question, what does it mean to love each other as Jesus loved us and how can we do that?  Be blessed and be a blessing Matt Ennis

Anchor House Week 4: Strawberries

This week I had the chance to come through on a promise I made to one of our regular ships. When they were in port last we were hanging out in the break room with the crew. Somehow we got on the subject of strawberries, Florida strawberries of course. I made the bold statement that Florida strawberries were the best. Trish followed up by clarifying that Plant City’s are the best. She had a point that is hard to argue with. In the discussion, I told the seafarer that I would bring them some strawberries next time they were at Port Manatee. Sure enough the next time they were in port I ran to Detweillers, first thing in the morning, and picked up a half of a flat of some of the most beautiful strawberries you've ever seen. They were big, red, perfectly placed in the container in a neat and orderly fashion. They looked magnificent. As we approached the ship, the seafarer whom I had made the promise to waved and said, “You remembered!” After we boarded the ship, we t...
