Glow Differently

I saw this quote recently, “You glow differently when your confidence is fueled by belief in yourself instead of validation from others.” I found myself wrestling with it. I completely agree with the concept that the validation of my worth is not established by the thoughts of others. While I think a positive self image is important, I do not think that it is what really makes me “glow differently.” I hope I glow differently because of whom I believe in, rather than what I believe of myself. 

The author of Titus says, “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:4-7) . Love and kindness entered the world in the form of a man whose Father seeks to wash those He loves. Through Jesus, God pours out grace upon grace. Through Jesus we are restored in God’s kingdom. Because of Jesus we “glow differently” because we have hope. 

Last week, I challenged us to read the beatitudes daily for a week. For me, each day was a reminder that God’s kingdom is not like one of this planet. It is commonly referred to as an “upside down kingdom.” The joy and hope we experience does not come without pain and hurt. The joy and the hope we have, is a direct reflection of the unchanging glory of our Lord and Savior. In the face of poor spirits, loss of loved ones, oppression, strife, physical and emotional attack, we have joy. We have hope. We “glow differently” when our belief is firmly placed in Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God. 

“Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven…” (Matthew 5:12)

Anchor House Week 10: I Love It

This past week was week 10 at Anchor House. When I run into friends who I used to work with at State College of Florida or friends I haven't seen in a while, the first question is, "How do you like it?" I typically reply, "I love it." This week I've been challenged about that answer. It just won't do. It is too generic of an answer to truly describe what I am experiencing. It's too simple to describe the blessing of God working through you. It is too plain to explain the feeling of knowing you are right where God has planned for you to be.  I always thought I had purpose in my career. I know we are to worship God through the work He has provided for us to do. At times, however, the work I previously did seemed mundane and lacking purpose. Welcome Children

At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. My daughter couldn't wait to get to church. She was excited to worship with her friends and have fun together afterwards.   With the VBS takeover, the church was packed!
