This past week a group of us have been going through a devotional about unity. Those of you that are friends with me on Facebook have probably seen a few posts that quote the study. In these tumultuous times, our world is looking for hope.
How can we possibly be that beacon of hope if we arent united? Christians have a way of disagreeing about things. There are thousands of denominations and ministries each calling themselves Christian but with different theologies.
Jesus prayed, "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me"
(John 17:20-21 NIV). As He is praying for beleivers (those that beleive currently and will believe in the future) Jesus prays for all beleivers to be united. His prayer is for us to be one.
What's the secret to unity? God made it simple for us… LOVE GOD and LOVE HIS PEOPLE. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’ The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these" (Mark 12:30-31 NIV). When we are all busy loving God and each other we will look around and see the unity from Jesus' prayer.
Be blessed and be a blessing,
Matt
